DFW nightlife safety tips: How to have fun and get home safe

DFW nightlife is great but smart planning keeps it that way.

Getting home:

  • Uber/Lyft: Always have both apps installed. DFW surge pricing can be $40-80 from Deep Ellum at bar close (2AM). Pre-schedule a ride before you go out.
  • DART: Last trains leave downtown around midnight on weekends. Plan accordingly. Source: dart.org
  • Designated driver: The OG method. Rotate the responsibility.
  • Alto (Dallas-based ride share) — alternative to Uber/Lyft. Source: ridealto.com

While you're out:

  • Don't leave drinks unattended. Period. This applies everywhere.
  • Stay in well-lit, populated areas. Deep Ellum, Lower Greenville, West 7th are all walkable and well-patrolled.
  • Keep your phone charged. Carry a small portable battery.
  • Tell someone where you're going and when you expect to be back.
  • Cash is useful. Some DFW bars still have cash-only policies or minimums for cards.

DFW-specific safety notes:

  • Deep Ellum after 2 AM clears out fast. Don't linger on empty streets alone.
  • Parking in Deep Ellum: use the official lots, not random dark side streets.
  • Uptown is generally safe but car break-ins happen in parking garages. Don't leave anything visible.
  • Fort Worth Sundance Square area is well-patrolled and safe.

If something goes wrong:

  • Dallas PD non-emergency: (214) 744-4444
  • Fort Worth PD non-emergency: (817) 392-4222
  • Emergency: 911
  • RAINN hotline: (800) 656-4673

Look out for each other.
