Two months into my recovery from an MCL tear. Happened in the most predictable way possible — rolling with a brand new white belt who went 100% on a heel hook he saw on YouTube.
I felt the pop. Knew immediately. MRI confirmed a partial tear. No surgery needed but 6-8 weeks off the mat minimum.
I'm not mad at the guy. He didn't know. But this is why we need to teach new people that heel hooks are not day-one techniques. And experienced guys — protect yourself. Tap early. Your ego is not worth your knee.
Anyone else dealt with MCL recovery? How long before you felt normal training again?
This is my nightmare. I always tell new people "please don't touch my legs" for at least the first month.
