Checked the City of Dallas jobs portal this week and there are 200+ open positions. Everything from parks maintenance to IT to code enforcement to police dispatch.
The pay isn't going to make you rich but the benefits are genuinely good. Pension, health insurance, paid holidays, and you can't get fired for looking at someone wrong like in the private sector.
I've worked for the city for 6 years. It's stable. The work-life balance is real. And the pension at 20 years is worth sticking around for.
Anyone thinking about it, the application process takes forever (like 4-8 weeks) so don't wait if you're interested.
The pension is the real draw. 20 years and you can retire with a decent monthly check. Try finding that in the private sector.
