The BBQ debate never ends in DFW. I've eaten at every major spot multiple times. Here's where things actually stand.
Tier 1: Elite
- Cattleack Barbeque (Farmers Branch, 13628 Gamma Rd) — Only open Thu-Sat. The ribs are the best in DFW, period. Brisket is top 3 in Texas. Get there by 10 AM or eat disappointment.
- Pecan Lodge (Deep Ellum, 2702 Main St) — The Hot Mess (brisket + pulled pork + mac + slaw) is iconic. Consistent quality. Line is long but moves fast.
Tier 2: Excellent
- Terry Black's (Deep Ellum, 3025 Main St) — Austin import that delivers. Beef rib is massive. Good sides.
- Slow Bone (1014 Dragon St, Design District) — Underrated. Pulled pork sandwich is top tier.
- Hutchins BBQ (McKinney, 1301 N Tennessee St) — All-you-can-eat option. Ribs are sleeper elite.
Tier 3: Solid
- Hard Eight (multiple) — Good for groups, fun pit experience.
- Lockhart Smokehouse (Bishop Arts) — Solid sausage, mid brisket.
Overrated: Dickey's. I said what I said.
