I work remotely and have used 40+ DFW coffee shops as my office. Here are the ones that are actually good for WORKING, not just photos.
S Tier (great coffee + great workspace):
- Houndstooth Coffee (multiple) — Fast WiFi, plenty of outlets, excellent espresso. The Sylvan location has the best seating.
- Weekend Coffee (Oak Cliff) — Quiet, spacious, good natural light. The cortado is perfect.
- Cultivar Coffee (Deep Ellum) — Roast their own beans. Big communal tables. Never too crowded on weekdays.
A Tier:
- Davis Street Espresso (Oak Cliff) — Beautiful space, strong coffee, good pastries. Can get crowded on weekends.
- Ascension Coffee (Design District) — Upscale, quiet, good food menu. More expensive but you feel professional.
- Summer Moon (multiple) — The Moon Milk (sweet cream cold brew) is addictive. Decent workspace.
Avoid for working:
- Starbucks — you know why
- Any spot that is too small or too trendy — you will feel guilty taking up a table
What to look for:
- WiFi speed (minimum 25mbps for video calls)
- Outlet density (can you plug in?)
- Noise level (low music > loud music)
- Table size (laptop + notebook + drink = need real estate)
- Buy-in expectations (purchase something every 2 hours, don't camp)
Source: Speed-tested WiFi at every spot, worked full days at each location
Summer Moon's Moon Milk is basically legal drugs. I am addicted and not ashamed.
