DFW Airport operations suspended due to lightning — expect massive delays

DFW Airport has suspended all ground operations due to lightning in the area. No planes are taking off or landing.

Impact:

  • Ground stop in effect as of 4:15 PM
  • All departures delayed minimum 90 minutes
  • Inbound flights being held at origin or diverted to Austin/Houston
  • Terminal is extremely crowded

What to do:

  • Check your airline app for real-time updates
  • Do NOT drive to the airport to pick someone up yet
  • FlightAware.com has real-time tracking
  • Food court lines are 30+ minutes. Grab snacks if you can.

This happens every spring storm season. Patience is key — operations usually resume within 1-2 hours after lightning clears.

Terminal D is a zoo right now. Every gate is full. People sitting on the floor everywhere.

Currently stuck on the tarmac. Pilot said at least another hour. This is brutal.

Pro tip: download the DFW Airport app. It sends push notifications when the ground stop is lifted.

If youre picking someone up, the cell phone lot on the north side has shade. South lot does not.
