Gas leak forces evacuation of several blocks in Oak Cliff — Atmos Energy responding

A significant natural gas leak has been reported in the 400 block of West Davis Street in Oak Cliff. Atmos Energy crews are on scene.

Evacuation zone:

  • West Davis between Beckley and Zang
  • Surrounding residential streets within 2-block radius
  • Approximately 50 homes and 15 businesses evacuated

Details:

  • Leak reported at 10:30 AM by construction crew that hit a line
  • Strong gas odor reported as far as 4 blocks away
  • Dallas Fire-Rescue has HazMat on standby
  • No ignition reported

Shelter:

  • Displaced residents can go to the Oak Cliff Branch Library on Jefferson
  • Pets are welcome at the temporary shelter

Atmos has been doing a lot of line work in Oak Cliff lately. Construction hitting gas lines is unfortunately common during infrastructure upgrades.

Oak Cliff Library is open as a cooling center too. They have water and snacks for evacuees.

I live on Beckley. We could smell it inside our house with the windows closed. Grabbed the dog and left.
